Welcome to my Blog

A warm welcome to my Blog

I shall post some news of interest to Sri lankans about life in Sri Lanka in the period 1950-1960 mainly. This will feature articles on music, general history and medicine. I am dedicated to humanism and refuse to judge people according to labels they are born with. Their actions and behaviour shall be my yardsticks, always cognizant of the challenges they faced in life.

Refugee Child

The Refugee Child

I am scared
Where are we going
It is so tight here
Where is my father
It is so dark here
I am hungry
I am thirsty
Who are all these strange people
I want to go home
Why is that man carrying a gun
Where is my doll
I want to go home

I am so scared

  1. First published in Colombomedgrads 1962. This has a different, hopefully better, illustration.

  2. Mahendra, I like this illustration which shows the frustration and utter dejection of the parents and the hopeful optimism of the child. How on earth can we ignore their peril? Let us do all we can to help. Thanks for initiating thoughts on this subject. You may have set off some good project in motion. Zita
