Welcome to my Blog

A warm welcome to my Blog

I shall post some news of interest to Sri lankans about life in Sri Lanka in the period 1950-1960 mainly. This will feature articles on music, general history and medicine. I am dedicated to humanism and refuse to judge people according to labels they are born with. Their actions and behaviour shall be my yardsticks, always cognizant of the challenges they faced in life.

I dream.... Forever

I dream.... forever?

I dream as I often do
Of a planet where humans are free
Free to join hands in caring for our precious abode
Free to be ourselves
while being an integral part of a community

Free to stop searching for a purpose where there is none
Free to love others and be loved
Free to feel the pain of others less fortunate
Free to state our feelings without being judged
Free for our views to be considered dispassionately
Free to receive and understand the views of others
Free to forgive and bear no grudges
Free to let go the burning ember of regret and revenge
Free not to be classified according to birth, belief or bias

An interconnected world permeated by respect and love
A veritable Utopia without the need to commit to a Faith,
Judged on action and behaviour, not on words without meaning
Will I be dreaming forever in this complex world or ours?

Seeking solace

The angry wind sweeps across the sea unceasingly
Line after line of surging waves searching land eagerly
Waves rise and rumble forwards like moving walls of water
Breaking with a foamy splash bathing the shore further

She cuts a lonely figure silhouetted against the orange sky
Hair fluttering aimlessly as strong breezes pass her by
Staring into the distance in a thoughtful gaze
Whatever she is thinking is not seen in her face

Wave upon wave forming and breaking unceasingly
And rushing in spreading  around her feet lovingly
With each wave deeper and deeper her feet sink in
As she stood alone on the shore in a dream gazing

The expansive and choppy sea is nearly empty
Just a lone boat bobbing up and down gently
A swarm of birds now interrupts the vast sky
A thousand black specks in transient patterns fly

She stands motionless erect with arms at her sides
Seemingly lost in thought as tears well in her eyes
They run down in streaks on her soft proud cheeks
She takes a deep breath, her feelings she conceals

The sky becomes darker as the sun dips into the sea
Now a bright orange crescent peering over the sea
Soon a bright red speck beneath a darkened sky
Radiating a ripple of bright light on the sea nearby

Is there a raging fire inside her that we cannot see?
Soon darkness sets in heralding such calm and serenity
Just the soothing sound of gentle waves lapping the shore
Is she too calming down just like the sea for sure?

She raises her shoulders with a long deep breath
Face etched with grief, a matter of life and death?
Then drops them slowly with an agony untold
Turns and walks away to face her troubled world
Fading away, a tiny speck in the bleak horizon.

Universal Truth by MG

UNIVERSAL TRUTH

A person, a self, an aware being,
Smaller than a pin head in an ocean
The ocean itself
a pin head in a vast Universe
A person of Universal Insignificance
yet of high Personal Significance

Happy or not, in pain or not,
is all a matter of central sensation
Sensation is individual,
experience-conditioned,
expectation-conditioned
Nothing is absolute
The  intensity of the sensory experience
can vary in and within persons
with the same stimulus and circumstances

Why waste time, money and energy
trying to intensify and vary the stimulus
in the hope of a greater sensory experience
Is it not better to change the reaction
rather than the stimulus?
And be similarly or  even more content
with less futile investment of time and energy.
Is this the secret of happiness?
What is happiness?
Just a state of mind
What is mind?
Just a conscious awareness
