To me what is happening in Gaza strengthens my belief that implementing what is written in Ancient Religious texts (outmoded in my view) is dangerous and harmful. Political dogma can also be harmful but it is not underwritten by a guarantee of Eternal security through unknown and feared Powers, and is therefore less powerful. Political dogma claims to be a way forward for Society but not as an Absolute Truth (which Religion does).
Will a time come when respected Religious Leaders would have the gall and strength of character to say to their followers that the dangerous, inflammatory and inhuman statements attributed to Religious texts are palpably wrong and are contradictory to the basic message of the Teacher who espoused love, forgiveness and abhorred violence? Till they do, mindless followers will continue to quote parts of these texts to justify their unholy acts against Humanity
