Welcome to my Blog

A warm welcome to my Blog

I shall post some news of interest to Sri lankans about life in Sri Lanka in the period 1950-1960 mainly. This will feature articles on music, general history and medicine. I am dedicated to humanism and refuse to judge people according to labels they are born with. Their actions and behaviour shall be my yardsticks, always cognizant of the challenges they faced in life.

Prisoners of Time

For each of us
The preceding moment
Is filled with past memories
The succeeding moment
Is filled with anticipation
The present moment
Is never free from either

At the same moment
With the same conditions
Is it not inevitable

That..........

We see differently
We think differently
We react differently
We judge differently

Are we not prisoners of time
Past present and future
Is Free will a myth?

  1. These thoughts were partly prompted by the thought that 2 people of same sex and age faced with a moral dilemma, react differently because their thinking (the "self" they think they are) are always influenced by their genes (nature), the environment in which they grew up (nurture) and the decision they make using their "free will", in the same circumstances could be different because of these influences (the past memories/conditioning- the future anticipated). Each "thinks" he is thinking independently but in reality are already preconditioned. Hence the need to always investigate what appears to be a immoral action and try and understand people who behave badly. Rehabilitation rather than Punishment, Empathy rather than Hate or anger
